The Kyoraku Centennial Forest Fund Project “Children's Forest Growing and Hands-on Learning Session” Held October 5th, 2024.

The Kyoraku Centennial Forest Fund Project “Children’s Forest Growing and Hands-on Learning Session” was held at the Takaragaike area in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City, on Saturday, October 5th, 2024. A total of 27 people participated in the event, including 13 children under the guidance of the leaders of Takaragaike Kodomo no Rakuen. On the day, the group walked through the forest, which was already displaying signs of autumn, listening to the leaders’ talks and observing nature.

The children gathered and listened to a talk about the day’s schedule and safety precautions.
Then, they split into teams of “blue heron”, “mallard duck”, “Japanese grosbeak” and “pygmy woodpecker” and set off.

They suddenly came across a dead snake! The children looked in fear… but also with great interest.

While walking, they enjoyed quizzes about the forest and its creatures and a picture story about acorns. They also found lots of acorns lying on the ground.

(Left) They found a baby pine tree! They also listened to a story about how it grows.
(Right) The view from the fire pit of the “hou” fire of the Okuribi. How has the view from here changed?

After descending from the fire platform, everyone took a commemorative photo.
At the end, the leader gave each child a participation certificate.
