On Saturday, June 1, 2024, a children’s fores hands-on learning event, “Let’s Meet Giant Oaks in Ishida’s Forest! was held at the “Ishida ‘s Forest” in Nyoiketake, Kyoto City’s Sakyo Ward. This was the first time the event had been held at the venue, and KMFA received many applications. Twenty-one children and their parents, totaling 42 people, participated in the event.

After the greetings, the participants departed into the forest in groups with the forest instructors. They walked through the forest while listening to various stories about trees and living creatures in the forest.

In the afternoon, the participants made a “twig photo frame.” Using twigs from the forest, each work had a unique expression.

At the end of the event, the participants received certificates of participation from the instructors and small gifts from the sponsors, and the event was safely completed.

The participants commented, “It was a great experience for me to be in a forest that I don’t usually visit,
I wanted my child to actually sense the words “komorebi/sunlight filtering through the trees” and “yamabiko/echo  reverberating in the mountains” instead of just learning the words in classroom. It was a wonderful experience.
“It was fun to learn many things I didn’t know by walking through the forest while listening to the forest teachers.

KMFA will continue to hold events to familiarize children with forests with the cooperation and participation of a wide range of stakeholders.
